Kingsmill – Yesterday and Today

In 1607, Captain Gabriel Archer commanded one of the first English sailing ships to navigate the James River. Records show that Archer would have established the first English settlement on the land now known as Kingsmill had the water been three feet deeper near the shoreline. Instead, he settled slightly farther up the river at Jamestown.

Less than a century after the Jamestown settlers arrived, there were plantations on the land. In 1736, one was named for the earliest owner of the land – Richard Kingsmill. Today, some of the outbuildings of this plantation still stand, not far from a prehistoric Indian campsite.

Lying gently along over three miles of the majestic James River, this land, now called Kingsmill on the James, is a residential and resort community. Located just two and one-half miles from Colonial Williamsburg and the College of William and Mary, Kingsmill holds within itself the very beginnings of our country and our roots.

For many centuries, this has been a marvelous place to live. And today, it is even more so. Its natural beauty has been enhanced while its history has been carefully preserved.

Variety of Housing Styles

Kingsmill offers a variety of beautiful homes and home sites which include traditional single family dwellings, patio homes, spacious townhomes, and condominiums.     Many locations offer magnificent views of  ponds, wooded ravines, the James River, and Kingsmill Resort golf courses.

Kingsmill Community Services Association

The Kingsmill Community Services Association (KCSA) is a community association that governs the residential portion of Kingsmill. The thriving and extensive volunteer network of this association allows homeowners with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints to take an active part in the activities and operation of the community.

A qualified police force is on duty 24 hours a day throughout Kingsmill, providing beneficial community services and maintaining two entry gates.

The three neighborhood recreation centers offer a variety of tennis courts, swimming pools, and activity or meeting rooms with state of the art technology. Over 25 acres of tranquil ponds are available for fishing and canoeing. Miles of wooded trails invite biking, jogging, and walking.

With its proximity to an unmatched combination of protected green spaces, resort and spa facilities, modern theme parks, outstanding golf, shopping, entertainment, and renowned historical sites which also include Jamestown and Yorktown, it's no wonder that so many people make Kingsmill their home.
